KUTAREVO – sanctuary where the bears live who are unlucky or separated from their mothers when they are too small for their independent life. Such giants, driven by the help and care of people, fail to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for independent living. Therefore, they never go to their natural habitats but remain in a refuge that is now unique to this project in the world.
MAJEROVO VRILO – Sometimes there were 50 water mills on the river, but today they are rare in function. The largest river source of the Gacka River is Tonković vrilo, which is located on the southeastern edge of the Gacka valley, while Majerovo is the second in terms of abundance. The Gacka River in its source region has over thirty springs.
Its springs are like small blue lakes, and the water in the Majerov gorge rises to a depth of over 100m. But in this beautiful ambience of the gentle valley is waiting for us to meet the mill and get acquainted with the way the mill works and the traditional method of producing flour.
The departure is from Zagreb at 8AM in front of your hotel or other accommodation. Driving along the slopes of North Velebit and coming to KUTEROVO – BEAR SANCTUARY. After visiting the refuge and educational program, there is a group gathering and a departure to OTOČAC.
We will have a panoramic tour of TONKOVIĆ VRILA, a view of the GACKA valley and a visit to one of the Gacka River springs: MAJER VILLAGE and old water mill. A shorter stop to buy souvenirs-flour and enjoy the natural beauties of this popular excursion site.
The journey further goes on with the story of the Japods who inhabited this area and other historical attractions of this beautiful area. Going to the dairy RUNOLIST with the tasting of the cheese, with the introduction of the famous Lika cheese production, among which is CHEESE ŠKRIPAVAC. Short time to buy cheese. Group gathering and departure to Zagreb. Return to the departure point is anticipated in the evening.
